Kindling runs on Kindling
The project’s own Pools, planned.
We plan to run five Pools to support Kindling’s development and its larger mission: curators, builders, readers, the people who would govern it, and the people who write about it. They are not open yet, and nobody is in them.
Planned, with invented people. Every curator named below apart from the Kindling maintainers, and every member, is invented, so you can see how each Pool would work. Nothing on this page is live.

Each Pool is a JSON manifest, listed in the domain’s well-known file and reported in the Circular’s From the project column. The settings, side by side, are under the hood.

Founding Curators
People who already do introduction work, invited by the maintainers to run the first Pools and write down what curation is as a craft. Maintainers propose; every person still accepts or declines, and can leave within a minute. This Pool is not a waiting list for anything and nobody pays to be in it.
Why curator-only adds
The founding cohort is invited, so only the curators propose names: that is curator-only adds. It adds a step before the handshake and removes nothing after it (§5.4). Every person proposed still gets a handshake, can say no, and can leave within a minute. It is public because the people deciding what curation is as a craft should be easy to find and easy to question.

Client Builders
Developers building Kindling clients, readers, hosts and tools, in any stack. For trading notes, reviewing each other’s conformance, and finding a second pair of eyes before a release. Not for recruiting or selling.
Why universal opt-in
Building is public work, and this Pool exists to find a second pair of eyes, so the door is wide: universal opt-in. The curators send a handshake to anyone building a client, host or tool who asks, and each person says yes or no (§5.2). The charter says what it is not for, recruiting and selling, in plain words.

Spec Readers
People who read the specification and the RFCs closely and say where they are ambiguous, missing something, or overreaching. Identity-protocol veterans and IndieWeb regulars especially. Disagreement is the point.
Why universal opt-in
Disagreement is the point, so nobody screens readers: universal opt-in, public. The only gate is the handshake itself. Any reader who asks is sent one, and a no is remembered like any other (§5.2).

Toward a Working Group
People willing to stand for the Working Group that governs Kindling by v1.0: two elected implementer seats, one IndieWeb seat and a rotating advisory. Each person is vouched for by someone already here. Being in this Pool is not a seat; it is a list of people willing to serve.
Why vouching required
People standing for governance need someone already here to say they are real and serious, so entry needs one vouch from a current member: vouching required. The vouch is local to this Pool (§4.4). Hollis Grant reads “Vouched for by the curator” here, because Ingrid Solberg vouched for him, and “Signed in with OAuth” in Spec Readers. The vouch adds a step before the handshake. Hollis still said yes himself (§5.4). Being listed is not a seat; it is a list of people willing to serve.

People who write about social technology, the friendship recession and the open-protocol revival, and want to talk to the curators and builders doing the work. The maintainers answer questions here; nobody here is owed a quote.
Why universal opt-in
A writer should be able to find the people doing the work without a fee or a gatekeeper, so this Pool is public and universal opt-in. Every writer says yes to being listed, the same as everyone else, and nobody here is owed a quote.
